Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test

IPU CET is the common name for the course-specific Common Entrance Tests conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). It is not one paper for every applicant. Each programme has a programme/CET code, its own eligibility and subject composition, and an identified admission route. Some GGSIPU programmes use a university CET; others use a national-level examination such as JEE Main, NEET, CLAT, CAT, CMAT, NIMCET or NATA; selected programmes may also consider CUET through a notified channel.

The first task for a student is therefore not “prepare for IPU CET” but identify the correct programme code and admission basis in the official undergraduate or postgraduate brochure.

What IPU CET actually means

GGSIPU assigns codes to programmes and conducts separate tests or prepares separate merit lists for them. A B.Ed applicant and a design applicant do not take a common all-purpose syllabus. The brochure's “at a glance” table is the controlling route map: it tells candidates whether admission is through GGSIPU CET, a national-level test, qualifying-exam merit or another notified channel.

This distinction prevents common application mistakes:

  • B.Arch admission, for example, uses NATA and does not have a GGSIPU CET;
  • programmes using JEE Main, NEET or CLAT require the corresponding national examination and GGSIPU admission/counselling registration as prescribed;
  • programmes carrying a GGSIPU CET require the correct CET application and course-specific syllabus;
  • an applicant interested in multiple codes may need separate selections/payments as the portal and brochure specify.

“IPU CET rank” is meaningful only together with the CET/programme code. Scores and ranks from different papers are not interchangeable.

Common exam pattern

For GGSIPU CET papers covered by the university's common scheme:

  • mode: offline OMR-based test, unless a programme-specific notice changes it;
  • questions: 100 objective multiple-choice questions with four options;
  • duration: 150 minutes;
  • maximum marks: 400;
  • correct response: +4;
  • incorrect response, including marking more than one option: −1;
  • language: English, except B.Ed, which is conducted in English and Hindi;
  • no retest is held merely because a candidate misses the scheduled paper.

Programme notices override the common scheme if they expressly prescribe a different test or practical component. Applicants should verify the code on the admit card and the detailed syllabus chapter rather than relying on a generic sample paper.

Eligibility is programme-specific

There is no single qualification or minimum percentage for all IPU CETs. Undergraduate programmes generally start from Class 12 but prescribe different subjects and aggregates; postgraduate programmes start from a relevant bachelor's degree and can require discipline-specific marks, professional registration or experience.

The official process uses these checks:

1. Find the exact programme in the “list of programmes and applicable entrance tests.”

2. Read its row in the eligibility and admission-criteria chapter.

3. Confirm required subjects, aggregate-calculation method, qualifying examination and test priority.

4. Check age rules and any programme-specific exception.

5. Verify whether “appearing/result awaited” candidates may apply and when proof of passing must be submitted.

GGSIPU states that qualifying percentages are not rounded up: 49.9% does not become 50%. Eligibility remains provisional until documents are checked, even if the university issues an admit card or rank.

The common brochure provides general maximum-age rules for broad programme groups and a process for exceptional relaxation, but these values can change and do not replace a programme-specific condition. Medical programmes follow their own statutory and national-test rules.

Application process

1. Download the correct UG or PG admission brochure from the GGSIPU admissions page.

2. Note the programme name, code, admission basis and counselling mode.

3. Register on the official admission portal using consistent Class 10 identity details, email and mobile number.

4. Select the programme/CET code carefully; do not assume one form automatically covers every course.

5. Enter qualifying-exam status, Delhi/Outside Delhi region, category and sub-category accurately.

6. Upload the recent photograph, signature, left-thumb impression and required certificates in the specified format.

7. Choose available test-centre preferences for a university CET and pay the applicable application charge.

8. Download the submitted form and later the e-admit card. Check notices for corrections, test schedule, result and counselling separately.

The “Delhi Region” classification normally depends on where the qualifying examination was passed, not merely on residence. The brochure's exact definition and programme reservation rules should be used; selecting the wrong region can cancel admission during verification.

Syllabus and preparation

The detailed CET chapter publishes code-specific syllabus or subject weightage. Preparation must begin from that entry. Depending on the programme, a CET may test school subjects, a relevant bachelor's discipline, language, reasoning, general awareness, teaching aptitude, design aptitude or professional knowledge.

A reliable workflow is:

  • print the official syllabus/weightage for the chosen code;
  • map every topic to a source book or standard qualifying-course material;
  • practise 100-question, 150-minute OMR mocks;
  • reserve time to transfer and verify responses on the OMR sheet;
  • track wrong-answer cost because four incorrect answers erase one correct answer;
  • use official previous papers or notices when available, keeping in mind that old structures can change.

For design-related CETs, the university's syllabus can include analytical and logical reasoning, visual aptitude, design awareness, spatial understanding, colour, geometry and design principles. This should not be generalised to BCA, B.Ed, nursing or postgraduate papers.

Admit card and exam-day rules

Carry a printed e-admit card and one permitted original photo ID, such as Aadhaar, passport, PAN card, voter ID or driving licence, as stated in the instructions. A scan or soft copy is not a substitute. Keep two matching passport photographs available when required.

Reach the centre before the reporting/gate-closing time for frisking and identity/biometric formalities. Phones, electronic gadgets, earphones, microphones, watches and unauthorised material are prohibited. Use only permitted pens for the OMR sheet. Centre, session and date-change requests are generally not accepted.

Result, cutoff and what happens next

GGSIPU publishes course-wise CET merit/rank on its website. It does not create a universal cutoff across all programmes. A useful cutoff must identify:

  • programme/CET code;
  • institute and branch/specialisation;
  • category, sub-category and Delhi/Outside Delhi region where applicable;
  • counselling round;
  • opening and closing rank.

The university publishes official round-wise cutoff reports and seat matrices. These are the correct historical references, but a previous closing rank is not a guaranteed future result because intake, applicants, choices and reservation can change.

After the result:

1. Confirm that your route uses centralised online counselling or programme-specific offline counselling.

2. Complete counselling enrolment when separately required; exam application alone may not complete this stage.

3. Check the final seat matrix and institute/programme combinations.

4. Fill choices in genuine preference order and save/lock them as directed.

5. Review the allotment, pay the part-academic/admission fee within the deadline, and choose freeze/float or other option only after reading the round rules.

6. Upload or present documents for verification and resolve any deficiency within the allowed period.

7. Report physically to the allotted institute when directed and pay the balance fee.

8. Follow withdrawal, upgradation, spot/open-house and refund rules from official notices.

Offline-counselling programmes can require in-person attendance in rank order with documents and payment instruments. Missing a reporting slot can forfeit consideration, so do not assume online steps apply to every code.

Colleges and programme availability

GGSIPU admissions cover University Schools of Studies, Centres of Excellence, government institutes and affiliated self-financing colleges. There is no accurate single “IPU CET college list” independent of a programme: BBA, BCA, B.Ed, engineering, law, nursing and design have different participating institutes and seat matrices.

Use the brochure's programme/institute chapter and the official https://www.ipu.ac.in/adm2026/adm2026seat.php" class="inlink">seat matrix and cutoff page to build the list for your code. For each option, compare accreditation/approval, exact degree and specialisation, campus, sanctioned intake, total fees, placements published by that institute, travel/hostel needs and prior official closing ranks.

Reservation and documents

Reservation depends on the programme and institution type. Rules can cover SC, ST, Delhi OBC, EWS, PwD, defence, minority, region and supernumerary categories. National-level medical admissions and some institutions can follow separate rules. Use the reservation chapter rather than applying one percentage table to all seats.

Typical verification records include the application and allotment documents, CET/national-test admit card and result, Class 10 certificate, qualifying-exam marksheets and certificate, government photo ID, migration/character certificate where required, medical certificate, photographs, and valid category/sub-category/region documents. The admission verification form and programme notice provide the final checklist.

Student decision checklist

Before paying, verify the official domain and exact code. Before preparing, confirm whether the route is CET or a national test and download the code-specific syllabus. Before counselling, check institute-wise seats and official historical cutoffs. Before accepting, understand fees, refund/withdrawal consequences and physical-reporting requirements. Admission is secure only after eligibility verification, fee completion and reporting—not merely after receiving a CET rank.

Keep a simple admission-control sheet with the programme code, admission basis, application number, test score/rank, counselling type, choice deadline, allotted institute, fee deadline and reporting documents. This is especially useful when applying to multiple GGSIPU programmes because a notice for one code does not automatically extend or modify another code's schedule.

Official sources

Always use the brochure and notices for the admission session in which you apply. Codes, admission routes, mode, eligibility, fees, centres, seats and counselling rules can be revised.
