Admission model: Score accepted independently by participating universities, institutions and colleges

The Under Graduate Aptitude Test, commonly called UGAT, is AIMA’s standardised screening test for admission to undergraduate programmes such as Integrated MBA, BBA, BCA, BHM, B.Com and allied courses. It is not admission to one named university and it does not have central counselling.

Candidates can nominate up to five participating institutes to receive their UGAT data and score. AIMA also provides an individual scorecard that may be produced to other institutes willing to accept it. Each institute decides whether it will accept UGAT, which programme it covers, its own eligibility, application deadline, cutoff and any interview or additional selection stage.

Who should take UGAT

UGAT can suit a Class 12 student considering management, computer applications, commerce, hospitality or an integrated management programme at institutions that expressly accept the score. Before paying for the test, verify three things on the intended institution’s own website:

1. the exact programme accepts UGAT for that admission cycle;

2. the candidate meets the institute’s Class 12 subjects and marks rule;

3. a separate institutional application is completed if required.

“Participating in UGAT” does not mean every programme at that institution accepts the score. AIMA itself advises candidates to recheck recognition and score acceptance directly with the institution.

Eligibility

AIMA states the minimum qualification as 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board. Students who are appearing in, or have appeared in, Class 12 may also apply.

This is only the test-level rule. A receiving institute may prescribe a minimum percentage, subject combination, age condition or other requirement. For example, a BCA programme may require Mathematics or Computer Science even though AIMA’s general UGAT eligibility does not. Passing the test-level screen cannot override programme eligibility.

Two paper variants

UGAT has a common aptitude component and an extended BHM paper.

IMBA, BBA, BCA and other non-BHM programmes

SectionQuestions
English Language40
Numerical and Data Analysis30
Reasoning and Intelligence30
General Knowledge30
**Total****130**

The verified bulletin gives two hours for these four sections.

BHM

BHM candidates take the same 130-question common component plus:

Additional sectionQuestions
Service Aptitude25
Scientific Aptitude25
**BHM total****180**

The verified schedule allows a third hour for the two BHM-specific sections. A candidate applying for both BHM and other programme types follows the BHM structure; the common-section scores can be reported separately for IMBA/BBA/BCA-type admission.

The test is objective and multiple-choice. AIMA’s bulletin warns of negative marking for wrong answers but does not state the deduction value in the verified test-structure table. Candidates should not invent or assume a fraction; they should read the instructions printed in the relevant bulletin, question booklet and answer sheet.

Test mode and OMR discipline

AIMA’s verified UGAT information specifies a Paper Based Test. Candidates answer on a machine-scanned answer sheet. The test-year portal and admit card control the reporting time and venue.

Practical OMR rules:

  • carry the permitted writing material stated on the admit card;
  • fill identification fields and booklet series carefully;
  • mark only one response in the prescribed way;
  • do rough work only where allowed;
  • reserve time to check unanswered or mismatched question numbers;
  • never change an answer so carelessly that the scanner reads multiple marks.

What to study

English Language

Prepare reading comprehension, vocabulary in context, grammar, sentence correction, usage, para arrangement and inference. Train for fast reading without losing qualifiers such as “except,” “most likely” or “cannot be inferred.”

Numerical and Data Analysis

Cover arithmetic, ratios, percentages, averages, profit and loss, interest, time-work, time-distance and interpretation of tables and charts. The aim is quick, reliable calculation—not lengthy advanced mathematics.

Reasoning and Intelligence

Practise series, analogy, coding, arrangements, statements and conclusions, assumptions, directions, relationships and analytical sets. Classify every mock error as a misunderstood condition, invalid inference or time-management failure.

General Knowledge

Revise major national and international events, business and economy, government, science, sports, awards, institutions and static background connected to important news.

Service and Scientific Aptitude for BHM

Service Aptitude tests judgement and suitability for customer-facing hospitality situations. Scientific Aptitude tests practical scientific understanding. BHM candidates should practise situational questions and foundational school-level scientific concepts in addition to the common paper.

Application process

1. Register on the official UGAT portal with an active email address and date of birth.

2. Complete personal, contact and academic details.

3. Select the appropriate programme/test option, especially if applying for BHM.

4. Upload the prescribed photograph and signature.

5. Choose permitted test-city preferences.

6. Enter up to five participating institute choices for direct score transmission.

7. Pay through the method enabled by the live portal.

8. Save the application number, registration slip and payment proof.

9. Check application status and download the admit card; AIMA does not send it by post.

AIMA’s official pages consulted during research displayed inconsistent fee figures. The amount shown on the live application/payment page and applicable official notice should therefore be treated as controlling. Do not pay through an unofficial link.

Choosing the five institutes

Do not use the five slots merely for famous names. Build a verified shortlist containing:

  • institution and campus;
  • exact UG programme;
  • approval/affiliation status;
  • confirmation that UGAT is accepted;
  • separate application and deadline;
  • eligibility;
  • total programme cost, hostel and refund policy;
  • selection stages after the score;
  • placement report for the exact programme and graduating cohort.

AIMA forwards scores to the nominated institutes, but this does not automatically submit every institute’s own admission form. Apply separately wherever the institution requires it.

Result and scorecard

Candidates download the UGAT score from the AIMA portal. Preserve both a digital copy and print copies. An institute can use the score for admission or for shortlisting candidates for another stage.

There is no single national UGAT pass mark or cutoff because AIMA does not allocate seats. One institute may shortlist on total score, another may use a programme-specific component, and another may combine UGAT with Class 12 marks, an interview or other criteria.

When comparing a published cutoff, insist on the institution, campus, programme, category, admission year and selection stage. A number without that context is not useful admission guidance.

What to do after the result

1. Download and verify the scorecard.

2. Check each target institute’s candidate portal and admission notice.

3. Confirm whether the institute already received the score through an AIMA choice or needs a scorecard upload.

4. Complete any separate form and pay only the institute’s official fee.

5. Attend the interview, group discussion, writing test or document verification if prescribed.

6. Compare offers on curriculum, recognition, cost, internship, placement evidence and refund terms.

7. Accept an offer and pay within its deadline.

8. Obtain a written admission receipt and cancellation/refund rules.

Do not wait for a central UGAT counselling announcement; there is no common AIMA counselling process for these colleges.

Preparation plan

Start with a diagnostic paper and calculate accuracy by section. For the four-section paper, a useful two-hour experiment is 25–30 minutes each for English, Numerical/Data Analysis and Reasoning; 15–20 minutes for GK; and the remainder for review and OMR checks. Adjust from mock evidence.

BHM candidates must separately practise the final 50 questions so that the additional hour does not become an endurance failure. In every mock, record attempted, correct, wrong and blank responses, time used, and mistakes caused by guessing. Because official material warns of negative marking, net accuracy matters more than maximum attempts.

Important safeguards

  • Confirm UGAT acceptance directly with the institution before applying.
  • Verify programme recognition/affiliation with the competent authority.
  • Never confuse AIMA’s institute list with a quality ranking or admission guarantee.
  • Read the receiving institution’s refund rules before paying a seat-confirmation amount.
  • Retain the scorecard, institute application, payment receipts and all correspondence.
