AIIMS B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing has its own entrance examination and AIIMS online seat-allocation process. It is not the NEET-UG MBBS counselling route. Under the verified official prospectus, only female candidates are eligible for B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing. B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) is a different course with different qualifications and selection stages.
What this examination leads to
The examination is the common admission route for the four-year B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing programme at participating AIIMS institutions. The programme prepares students for professional nursing through classroom science, nursing foundations, clinical practice, community health, medical-surgical nursing, child health, mental health, midwifery, research and management.
AIIMS New Delhi conducts the entrance test, publishes the result/rank and runs online institute choice filling and seat allocation. Qualifying the test does not itself complete admission: candidates must participate in the notified allocation round, accept an allotment and report with valid documents.
Eligibility
The verified official AIIMS B.Sc. prospectus required a candidate to:
- be an Indian citizen under the regular entrance route;
- attain 17 years by 31 December of the admission year;
- pass 10+2/Senior School Certificate/Intermediate Science or equivalent from a recognised board;
- study English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology;
- obtain at least 55% aggregate in those four subjects for General/OBC-NCL/EWS, or 50% for SC/ST;
- be female for B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing at AIIMS New Delhi and participating AIIMS.
Result-awaiting Class 12 candidates may apply provisionally but must produce proof of passing with the required subjects and percentage at seat allocation. The current prospectus controls certificate dates, category formats and any PwBD conditions.
Foreign-national admission is handled under a separate nomination/seat provision described in the prospectus and should not be confused with the regular online entrance route.
Do not confuse the three nursing routes
| Route | Typical applicant | Selection |
|---|---|---|
| AIIMS B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing | Class 12 PCB + English candidate meeting the marks/age rule; female-only under verified prospectus | AIIMS common CBT and online institute allocation |
| AIIMS B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) | Qualified GNM nurse with nursing-council registration and other specified requirements | Separate AIIMS process, including stages specified for Post-Basic |
| AIIMS M.Sc. Nursing | Nursing graduate meeting postgraduate eligibility | Separate M.Sc. Nursing entrance and allocation |
The score, form and merit list of one route should not be presented as applying to the others.
Application process
AIIMS uses its online registration system. Candidates should follow the current B.Sc. prospectus and portal instructions rather than copying an old Basic Registration/Final Registration schedule.
Practical sequence:
1. Register through the official AIIMS examinations portal.
2. Enter identity, contact and category details exactly as supported by documents.
3. Complete the application stages required for that cycle.
4. Upload photograph, signature, thumb impression and certificates to the stated specifications.
5. Choose permitted examination cities.
6. Pay the applicable fee or complete the exemption procedure.
7. Confirm that the application status is complete and save every acknowledgement.
8. Download the admit card and verify name, photograph, centre and timing.
AIIMS may prescribe certificate issue windows for OBC-NCL/EWS. A generally valid certificate can still fail an admission-specific date or format rule.
Exam pattern
The verified official prospectus specifies one computer-based paper of two hours, with 100 objective questions/marks:
| Part | Subject | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| A | Physics | 30 |
| B | Chemistry | 30 |
| C | Biology | 30 |
| D | General Knowledge | 10 |
| **Total** | **100** |
The paper is conducted in English and Hindi under the verified scheme. Marking is +1 for a correct response, −1/3 for an incorrect response and 0 for unanswered/marked-for-review questions unless saved as an answer. Selecting more than one response attracts the wrong-answer treatment.
The 2026 result notice shows that the examination was conducted in two shifts and reported percentile and overall rank. When more than one shift is used, students should rely on the official percentile/rank rather than comparing recalled raw attempts across shifts.
Syllabus and preparation
Physics, Chemistry and Biology are based on the Class 12/10+2 standard stated by AIIMS, while General Knowledge tests wider awareness. Candidates should use the current prospectus/mock instructions if AIIMS publishes a detailed topic list.
Biology
Biology has 30% of the paper. Build strong NCERT-level command of human physiology, genetics, reproduction, ecology, cell biology, biotechnology and plant physiology. Practise statement-based questions carefully because one qualifier can reverse an answer.
Chemistry
Prepare physical calculations, inorganic trends and exceptions, and organic reaction logic. Revise equations, units and conditions; avoid memorising a reaction without recognising the substrate or reagent.
Physics
Focus on selecting the correct model quickly, maintaining units and signs, and controlling calculation time. Maintain an error log separating concept, formula, algebra, reading and time-pressure errors.
General Knowledge
Follow major national and international events, health programmes, science, public institutions, awards and significant developments. Current affairs should be learned with source, date and context rather than through unsupported one-line lists.
Mock-test discipline
The −1/3 penalty makes accuracy important. For every mock record correct, wrong and blank responses by subject; marks lost to guesses; time per section; and repeated errors. A full two-hour simulation is more useful than only untimed question banks.
Result and cutoff
AIIMS publishes percentile, rank and the list of candidates provisionally eligible for online seat allocation. The 2026 result notification states that qualification was provisional and subject to later verification.
Three numbers must remain separate:
- qualifying threshold/list: permits participation in allocation;
- overall rank: the candidate's merit position;
- closing rank: the last rank allotted a specific AIIMS, category and round.
There is no single permanent “AIIMS nursing cutoff.” AIIMS Delhi UR Round 1 and another AIIMS/category/open round are different competitions. Use official round results. For example, the official 2025 first-round result lists the participating institutions and rank-wise allotments, while later rounds show movement caused by upgrades and vacancies.
What to do after the result
1. Download the result and note overall rank, category and percentile.
2. Monitor the official portal for the seat-allocation schedule; qualification does not auto-register every choice.
3. Enter the B.Sc. Nursing allocation portal through the candidate's AIIMS MyPage.
4. Create the separate allocation password if instructed.
5. List participating AIIMS in genuine preference order.
6. Lock/submit choices and save proof.
7. Check the round result and choose the permitted acceptance/upgrade option.
8. Submit documents or demand draft/payment as instructed to the allotted AIIMS.
9. Complete medical fitness and physical reporting.
10. Obtain written/portal confirmation of admission.
In the verified 2025 scheme, Round 2 reused choices submitted in Round 1 rather than reopening choice filling. Open round required fresh registration/choices and barred candidates still holding another seat unless resignation had been accepted by the deadline. These details are cycle-specific but demonstrate why the current round notice must be read.
Participating AIIMS
The official 2025 seat matrix listed 18 institutions and 1,291 seats; offerings can change before result/allocation:

How to order institute choices
Rank the institutions by genuine preference after considering clinical exposure, nursing college maturity, hostel and safety, distance/travel, language and patient communication, campus facilities, total cost and personal support. Do not sort only by an old closing rank: closing rank measures demand, not complete educational quality.
Put a preferred institute above a less-preferred “safe” option. The allocation system can only consider choices submitted, so include every institution you would honestly join.
Documents for allocation/reporting
Prepare originals and copies of:
- AIIMS application/registration proof and admit card;
- result/rank and allocation letter;
- Class 10 certificate for date of birth;
- Class 12 marksheet and passing certificate;
- valid photo identity;
- category/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD certificates in prescribed format and date window;
- photographs and medical-fitness documentation;
- allocation acceptance and payment/DD proof;
- migration/transfer and other institute-specific joining documents.
Result-awaiting candidates must prove final eligibility by the prescribed stage.
Common mistakes
1. Assuming NEET registration covers AIIMS nursing.
2. Missing that B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing is female-only under the verified prospectus.
3. Confusing Hons., Post-Basic and M.Sc. Nursing.
4. Using overall Class 12 percentage instead of the required English+PCB aggregate.
5. Applying with an invalid OBC-NCL/EWS format or date.
6. Ignoring the −1/3 penalty.
7. Treating eligibility for allocation as a guaranteed seat.
8. Failing to enter and lock institute preferences.
9. Comparing category rank/closing rank with UR overall rank.
10. Assuming later-round rules from the previous year.
11. Holding another seat during an open round contrary to the notice.
12. Reporting without original documents.
